The billion dollar weight loss industry is filled with promises of ‘lose weight fast and build abs’ programs that don’t work! If it was so easy to lose weight and attain a perfect body, then why is obesity such a huge problem – especially in America?

To lose weight and ultimately get those six pack abs, a combination of exercise and correct nutrition is required. No special pills or quick weight loss schemes will work. There is no short cut to losing weight and getting in shape. It takes determination, will-power and consistency. Many people have fallen into the trap of buying pills, books and DVDs that promise a great body in a few weeks, only to find they have wasted their money.

The best way to start your healthy regime is look at the foods you eat and be honest about what you are consuming. If you eat junk food, you are not going to lose weight. You need to eat foods that help burn fat and build lean muscle. The most important catalyst in weight loss and muscle building is protein.

Good examples are lean red meat, chicken breast, fish, almonds and egg whites. Egg whites are a high source of whole-food protein and can be eaten at any time of the day. Eat plenty of fresh green vegetables and drink skim milk. Include at least two litres of water or more, per day.

To replace fat with muscle, start by lifting small weights and combine this with cardiovascular exercises. Running, swimming, stair climbing, dancing, squash or any other activity that gets your heart rate up for at least 25 minutes will help burn fat. Remember to focus on excess fat loss before you expect to see your six pack!

The best exercise for muscle building is sit-ups, crunches and leg lifts. Include squats and dead lifts – these have excellent abdominal benefits. Squats and dead lifts give your core an outstanding workout. While doing these exercises, the abs are subjected to strong contraction. Many trainers also swear by the abdominal bicycle exercise. This is a strong exercise that targets the entire abdominal region.

If you are serious about getting those six pack abs, it may be wise to seek out the services of a professional trainer who also specialises in nutrition. You will be assured of being told what foods to eat to build lean muscle, and how to exercise correctly to achieve your goal. You can also join a gym and speak to the trainers about your ultimate goal. If money is not an option, hire a personal trainer.

A personal trainer will help keep you motivated and design an exercise regime especially for you. You are more likely not to miss a session with your personal trainer as you have paid upfront for his services. Your personal trainer will also be very strict and will not put up with any lame excuses while he or she is in charge of you!

The way you’re training may be the problem. Some people assume if abdominal crunches are good, the more they do the better. If you’re trying to build ab definition, this isn’t the way to do it.

Are You Doing Too Many Abdominal Reps?

Abdominal muscles are like any other muscle in your body. When you’re trying to build ab strength and definition, you’ll get the most benefits from doing 10 to 12 reps with focus and added resistance. To add resistance, reduce the speed of each repetition so you’re not using momentum to propel your body up, and really focus on crunching slowly up and down. When you do an abdominal crunch like this, you’ll feel the difference immediately.

Once you can do abdominal crunches in a slow, controlled manner, add additional resistance by holding a dumbbell in your hands when you crunch. Increasing the resistance and doing 12 reps in a slow, controlled manner will give better results than doing 100 fast, unfocused crunches. A higher number of reps builds endurance not abdominal definition. You can also add resistance by doing abdominal crunches on a slant board so your head is lower than your feet. However you do them, the last repetition should be difficult if you’re working your abs hard enough.

Beyond Abdominal Crunches

You’ll need to do more than crunches to build beautiful abs. Focus on exercises that target the upper abs, lower abs, obliques and back muscles. Do them in the same slow, controlled manner with no more than 12 repetitions of each exercise. Three sets of each exercise should be enough to fatigue the abdominal muscles. Quality not quantity is what counts when it comes to building abdominal strength and definition.

If you’re working towards six-pack abs, abdominal strength exercises are only part of the equation. If you have a layer of fat covering your well-toned abs, you’ll never see them. That’s where fat-burning high-intensity cardio and a healthy diet come into play. You need to melt away that layer of fat to see what’s underneath. High-intensity workouts are better for blasting away stubborn abdominal fat than steady-state cardio.

Cardiovascular exercise is one way to burn off stubborn abdominal fat, but resistance exercises that target multiple muscle groups, particularly those in the lower extremities burn fat too. They also strengthen the abdominal muscles since you contract your abs while you’re doing them. Good compound exercises are weighted squats, lunges, deadlifts and push-ups. You get the added benefit of strengthening other muscles as well when you do these exercises.

The final part of the equation for building abdominal definition is dietary. You can’t build definition and blast away abdominal fat if you’re eating a diet of processed carbs and empty calories. Switch those processed carbs for vegetables and whole grains, and eat a small amount of lean protein with every meal. Most people need around 0.8 milligrams of protein per kilogram of body weight, but if you’re training hard you may need up to 1.2 milligrams. More protein than this won’t make your abs more defined. Like carbs and fat, protein can be stored as body fat if you overdo it.

The Bottom Line?

If you’re not seeing ab definition, stop focusing on the quantity of ab reps you’re doing. Cut back on the number you do and really isolate the abdominal muscles. Don’t be afraid to add resistance to get your abdominals ripped. Lastly, burn away abdominal fat with high-intensity exercise and a clean diet. When you do these things, you should see results.

' >

Who doesn’t want six-pack abs? But it takes hard work, smart training and good technique to sculpt enviable abdominal muscles – and it doesn’t happen overnight. Unfortunately, too many people are putting hours of sweat labor into building abs – and not seeing results. If your six-pack abs look more like more like overinflated muffin tops, you may not be working your abdominals properly. Here are four common abdominal training mistakes that can come between you and sexy abdominals.

Abs Training Mistake: Trying to Crunch Your Way to a Six-Pack

Crunches have their place as part of a well-rounded abdominal workout, but hundreds of crunches won’t melt away the layer of body fat that’s covering your abdominal muscles. You may already have the beginnings of a six-pack, but until you burn off the body fat that’s hiding them, no one will know it. Spend some of your crunch time on the treadmill, or do circuit training where you alternate strength training with short bursts of cardio. Focus on fat-burning along with your abdominal training, and watch those washboard abs take shape.

Abdominal Training Mistake: Doing Too Many Reps

The more the crunches and leg raises the better, right? When it comes to building beautiful abdominals, form is more important than reps. If you can belt out hundreds of crunches, you’re not focusing enough on your form, and you’re using momentum to do part of the work. High reps builds endurance, but they’re not so good for building defined abdominal muscles. Cut back on the number of repetitions you do. Instead, focus on doing fewer reps at a slow, more controlled speed with a focus on good form. Get into the zone and focus on each repetition. When you do the last rep, your abdominals should be fatigued. Do this and you’ll feel the difference. and see better results in six to eight weeks.

Abs Training Mistake: Not Doing a Well-Rounded Abdominal Workout

To get a six-pack, you need to work all of the muscles in your abdominal region and back including the rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis, obliques and the erector spinae muscles that line the spine. When you focus on crunches, you’re only working the rectus abdominis muscles. Do a focused workout that targets all of these critical muscles, and add variety to your routine by doing Pilates moves. Keep challenging your abdominal and back muscles in new ways. Strengthening your back adds balance and helps to improve your posture so your abdominals look tighter.

Abdominal Training Mistake: It’s Not Just Exercise

This is one of the biggest abdominal training mistakes of all. Building a six-pack is as much about diet as it is about exercise. If you’re eating a high-calorie diet full of high-glycemic carbs and processed foods, you’re thwarting your progress. Cut back on processed foods and replace them with fiber-rich fruits and vegetables. Eat a small amount of high-quality protein with each meal to satiate your appetite and keep your metabolism primed. Drink more water to reduce bloating from water retention. It may not help you build a six-pack, but your tummy will look tighter if you’re not distended from fluid retention.

If you make any one of these abs training mistakes, take steps to correct it. It could mean the difference between abs of jelly and abs of steel.

The ab roller and the ab crunch machine are two of the most popular ab machines available. These machines have advantages and disadvantages, and you should be sure to learn about them before investing.

The ab roller really is a basic piece of equipment. It looks like a dumbbell, but it is round and pretty light. When you use the ab roller, you put both hands on the roller while you are on the floor on your knees. Then you roll outward as far as you can without letting your body touch the ground. Once you are out as far as you can go, then you bring yourself back in and repeat the exercise. The key is not to extend farther than you can roll yourself back in.

The advantage of the ab roller is that it is handy. The equipment is light and easy to take with you so that if you travel, you can use the ab roller while you are out without much problem. The ab roller also is simple to learn to use, meaning you are probably more likely to use it than something difficult. The downside of the ab roller is that you cannot add much resistance to it, indicating that you can tap out its potential pretty early in your workout career.

The ab crunch machine is more complex and provides for a bit more in an ab workout. The machine looks scary but really is just a seat with handles. The handles are attached to cables, and you can adjust the amount of weight on the cables. Exercising with this ab machine is fairly simple to learn. Once you have the right weight resistance, you just pull the handles forward and do a crunch sitting up. The machine provides the resistance and also protects your back somewhat.

Working out with the ab crunch machine can provide extra resistance, which helps you build up your muscles. On the other hand, the machine works only for this one exercise. Still if you are looking for a good basic ab workout, trying the ab roller or the ab crunch machine should be a good place to start. These machines can get you in good shape before you want to expand your workout to more complicated machines and moves.

You should be working your abs to improve your health and well-being as well. Doing workouts will lessen the overall size of your abdomen. It may not eliminate fat, but it can enhance muscle, which in turn will burn fat! Increasing the muscle will speed up a better formation and look to your abs.

The abdomen is clearly an important part of the body. It is composed of many muscles and divided into groups. The lower abdomen is actually the hardest area on the body to try and firm up. So concentrating on the lower abdomen is key when working out. Toning your abs takes the right exercises and a lot of discipline. Working on your abdomen can actually improve your core and back as well. It can make your back stronger and less prone to injury, while improving your posture at the same time. We all have stress in our lives and ab workouts can be beneficial in relieving some of our frustrations.

Stress causes slow digestion and can cause anxiety. Anxiety can also cause havoc on your immune system and many people end up in the hospital because of it. Abdominal exercises can actually help with worry and stress. They can also help in other areas like obesity and heart disease. Okay, so it won’t be simple, but once you get into a routine of exercising your abdominals, you will feel so much better!

When you start to see and feel the changes you will be happy that you took interest in abdominal workouts. You will be drastically reducing the risk of getting diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Ab exercises can also improve your digestive tract and help you with any other blockages you may have. If you play on a team or just play sports once in while, ab workouts can improve your athletic abilities. Of course, going to the gym and playing sports can also help tone your abs as well as regular cardio workouts.

If you prefer to work out at home, then there are many options available. The benefits of abdominal workouts are great. Not only will you look better, but you will feel better too. With regular routine, you’ll benefit greatly from ab workouts.

Despite the greater resistance water has than air, aquasizing is low-impact, meaning less strain on joints. Try out these exercises next time you take a trip down to your pool. Remember, consult your doctor before starting a new workout routine, and always warm up correctly to prevent injury.

The first set of exercises to try is called the jump and dig. There are two moves in this set, one for the upper body and one for the lower body. The former is great for your obliques, and the latter works on your abdominals. To begin, stand in water that is between your belly button and chest. To work the lower body (including your abdominals), put your feet a wide distance apart, then jump so your knees come up to the surface of the water and back down. Picture a frog as you do it; this will help you get the form right. Next, to work the upper body, begin by making a scoop with both hands at the surface of the water. Bring your hand scoop below the surface, then scoop up and to one side. Alternate sides to work the obliques on both sides. Start by doing the two moves separately for three minutes each. Once you have mastered the form, do them at the same time to exercise both sets of stomach muscles at once.

As you build strength and endurance, you can add water gloves to enhance resistance. You can also do the exercises faster, packing more reps into each three minute period. Form is key, though. Do not sacrifice form for the sake of speed. It is better to do it properly than quickly. Also remember to set fitness goals and work toward them at a gradual pace. Do not push yourself too hard, too fast. You may want to see results fast, but an injury will seriously delay your workout goals. Start small, know your limits, and build slowly.

Hare a few additional tips. First, proper diet is important to any fitness routine. Second, stay hydrated both while working out and in everyday life. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight in pounds, divide it by 2, and drink that number of ounces of water each day. Third, rest up. This means not only getting plenty of sleep, but also getting the right kind of sleep. Spend all night sleeping on your stomach, and you will wake up with a sore back, making it difficult to do your stomach exercises. Also be sure to schedule off days into your routine to give your muscles a chance to rest up and rebuild. The journey to get flatter stomach is in your hands.

Again, this may be a good source for some people who have this goal, but where can you go to find free exercise to flatten stomach?

The internet is possibly one of the best sources for finding free information. There are hundreds of sites a person will find just by using the keywords “free stomach exercises” or similar phrases. These websites will give step-by-step instructions on how to perform a variety of exercises to flatten stomachs. When a person finds several exercises he or she likes, it is simple to print them out and have the paper available when performing the exercise.

Another good source to find free exercises to flatten stomachs is at a library. The library may actually have more information then the internet; it is just not as convenient. A person who takes the time to visit the library can find books on how to flatten their stomach read magazine articles and borrow videos that talk about exercises to flatten stomachs.

One source for finding free exercise to flatten stomachs is the television. If a person can set aside a specific time during the day for exercise, there are many television programs on throughout the day that are exercise related, even channels dedicated just to exercise and health. Many of these shows will focus on flattening stomachs, since this is a main goal of most people that exercise. This approach for finding free exercises to flatten stomachs may be the least convenient and may not be practical to everyone, but for some people that can find the right program and make it work with their schedule or the ability to record for use at a later time, it may be a good option.

For people that truly need to loose weight around their stomachs for health reasons, doctors are probably another source for free stomach exercises. They will have available many brochures and other material that will help the person in their goal to look and feel better. In addition, a doctor would be a good source for finding out other places to obtain this information.

There are hundreds of sources for finding free stomach exercises. Some of these sources require a purchase or even an investment. There are also many sources available that offer free exercises to flatten stomach muscles. Just because a person paid for the information does not necessarily make it better. To get maximum result, you have to select the exercises that suit your needs.

There are numerous abdominal exercise equipment in the market nowadays like abdominal belts, abs-rockers, abs-lounges and many more.

You need to consider several thing when choosing the correct equipment. You should not be deceived into buying fancy equipment which you do not really need. You can do some research about abdominal exercise machines and workout equipment before you buy them. The selected equipment must be easy to move and easily detachable.

Consult with a doctor first regarding injuries and medical conditions. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintaining the machine.

So what are the benefits of having an abdominal exercise machine at home? This would allow you to focus on hard on the target. Some abdominal exercise equipment is poorly designed or made from weak, undependable materials; some can even be dangerous to use. Strained or torn abdominal muscles are incredibly painful, and can put you on the shelf for a long time.

There are some tips for choosing the right abdominal equipment:

(1) Select the equipment based on how much space you have and how intensely you plan on working out. If you live on a small apartment, you may wish to opt for smaller devices.

(2) Make sure to adjust your abdominal equipment so that you are comfortable throughout your exercise. Lay your towel where you can easily get it to absorb your sweat.

(3) When picking up or using weight, make sure that it is not too heavy or it will injure you and will make you fall.

(4) You can interlock your feet, ankles, or knees in the abdominal equipment you are using. This would give you added support and stability while working out.

(5) Begin by inhaling , tightening your abdomen back toward your spine and then raising your neck and head a few inches off the ground. Exhale as you roll up. Support your head with your hands so you don’t strain your neck.

Some six pack abs equipment for your workout include:

(1) Stability Ball (Exercise Ball)

The stability ball is a great piece of equipment. In addition to increasing range of motion for crunches and other abdominal exercises, the stability ball also improves your balance and coordination. You can start with the basics such as regular crunches or oblique crunches.

(2) Medicine Ball

The medicine ball is simply a weighted ball. Although some people may think that medicine balls are only for boxers and athletes, medicine balls can really enhance your core workout.

(3) Ankle Weights

Ankle weights can increase the intensity of reverse crunches and leg raises. When regular leg raises become really easy, you can add ankle weights to increase the muscle work in your abs.

(4) Cables or Resistance Tubes

Here is another way you can add resistance to your abdominal muscles to break through strength. You can perform cable crunches from a low cable tower by lying on the floor and holding the resistance behind your head. Or you can perform cable crunches from a kneeling position.

There are many fitness equipment in the market that you can use to get yourself six pack abs. You need to choose the correct one and the one that suits your needs the best.
